Send mail through your SMTP server using GMail and Google Apps

For those who have a Google Mail account and registered one (or many) Google Apps account, you understand how annoying it is to send an email impersonating your Google Apps identity from your GMail account, and still get your GMail identity in the sent email.

End of july, Google released a new feature for GMail allowing you to send emails from another SMTP server. This will solve the problem defined above.

What you need to do ?

1. On you GMail account, go to Settings > Accounts > Add another email address you own (or edit account).

2. Reference your name & email address on the Enter information about your other email address form and click Next Step

3. On the Send mail through your SMTP server? select Send through netcv.com SMTP servers (recommended for professional domains – Learn more) and reference the following information :

SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com
Username: [you@your-google-apps-domain.com]
Password: [your-google-apps-password]

4. Click on Add Account and finish the procedure

That's it, you are now ready to send from your Google Apps domain and prevent the Outlook display issue "on behalf of".

Thank You! That saved quite a headache for me. "on behalf of" was very annoying.

I was never aware of this feature and had been searching for it. Luckily I stumbled upon your article. It's funny the poster above mentioned the "on behalf of". I was going to mention that too. I'm glad that's gone.

That's great information. I did see this info on another blog but didn't trust it. I will definitely do this to help me out with things.

This makes everything so much easier and less frustrating. I don't know why it takes so long for ideas to get processed when it's just something like this. Anyways, thanks for sharing because this information was helpful.

This post is WRONG! The Sender: still is sent, and Outlook will display "on behalf of" still. Get your facts right!

I attended this event...michael beasley just has somethin about him that make you want to smile. He can work a crowd and is the FUNNIEST person ever. I dnt think hes immature at all...he jus wants everyone to have a great time. (hopes he stays @ mia heat for the long run) Cant wait for his next appearance !

Don’t forget this will only work if you actually own the email account of your alternate address. Therefore you need to set your Gmail to support your other POP and/or IMAP access by routing outbound messages to your email domain’s outbound servers and straight into your recipient’s inbox without showing the annoying ‘on behalf of’ line.

I like how easy Google now makes this for people with multiple email addresses. Make sure to be careful, however.

Don’t forget this will only work if you actually own the email account of your alternate address.
